Derek Khan is a local legend and socialite. The celebrity stylist, former TV presenter and fashionista attends every major event in the UAE and has an enviable little black book choc-a-block with top VIP contacts from around the world.
Derek is from Trinidad and Tobago but lived most of his life in New York City. He started his career working in luxury retail with clients including Jackie Kennedy Onassis, JFK Jr and Bunny Mellon. Before moving on to manage Madonna’s dancers on one of her tours, when he was spotted for his costume styling talent.
He spent years styling top celebrity clients from Mary J Blige to Pink (his first clients were Salt-n-Pepa), and has also dabbled in presenting, co-hosting several US shows including MTV Makeover, guest judge and stylist on Tyra Bank’s America’s Next Top Model and as well as local shows on Dubai One.
During the 1990s, he was the first celebrity stylist to introduce high-end fashion such as Fendi, Dolce&Gabbana, Channel and more in Hip Hop. His last music collaboration was with Pink. He had been the most sought-after stylist in the music business making on average 3 million USD per year but this was halted when music internet sharing started. The music industry tail dived placing Derek in financial problems. His downfall was following his dramatic arrest for pawning diamonds.
He then moved to Dubai to write a biography but this has opened many doors for him and today has thriving career in Fashion and TV. He works today with Royals, VIPs and the biggest family names in the region.
