Dr. Alaa Murabit is a Canadian physician and a prominent global advocate for inclusive peace processes. She serves as a UN High-Level Commissioner on Health Employment and Economic Growth and is one of only 17 UN-appointed Sustainable Development Goal Global Advocates. Alaa is also a trustee for The Malala Fund, International Alert, Malaria No More, and Keeping Children Safe.
In 2019, Murabit was recognized as one of the Top 20 of the World's 100 Most Influential People in Gender Policy, alongside prominent figures such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Melinda Gates, and Michelle Obama.
Her powerful TED Talk, "What Islam Really Says About Women", released in July 2015, has garnered over nine million views across TED.com and YouTube. It was named TED Talk of the Day and featured as one of The New York Times' Four Moving TED Talks You Should Watch Right Now. Additionally, it was included in 12 TED Talks That Define the Future of Feminism.
Dr. Alaa Murabit is a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree, a recipient of the UCD James Joyce Award, and one of Canada’s 100 most impactful women in history. She is also a Nobel Peace Prize nominee. Recognized for her leadership in global policy and security, Harvard Law named her the youngest Woman Inspiring Change in 2017. She has been awarded the Marisa Bellisario International Humanitarian Award by the Italian Government, named the 2014 International TrustWomen Hero by The New York Times, and listed among Newsweek's 25 Women Under 25 to Watch. Additionally, she has been recognized as a BBC Top 100 Woman and a SAFE Global Hero.
