Eric Cantona, born in Marseille, France, is one of football’s most iconic figures. Known for his charisma, artistry on the pitch and fiery temperament, Eric left an indelible mark on the sport.
He began his professional journey at Auxerre before stints at several French clubs, including Marseille, Montpellier, and Nimes. Eric’s undeniable talent caught the attention of English clubs, leading to his move to Leeds United in 1992. There he helped the team secure the First Division title.
Eric’s defining chapter unfolded at Manchester United, where he joined later that year. Wearing the iconic number ‘7’ shirt, he became the linchpin of Sir Alex Ferguson’s team. His flair, vision, and goals led United to four Premier League titles and two FA Cups during his five-season tenure. He’s a former captain of the French national team, making 45 appearances and scoring 20 goals for his country.
In 2002, Eric became an inaugural inductee into the English Football Hall of Fame, and by 2003, “United Magazine” voted Eric as Manchester United’s greatest player.
Retiring in 1997 at just 30, Eric is a multi-faceted personality currently busy making movies and forging a successful music career.
