Biography
H.E. Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi is a distinguished leader, policymaker, and academic whose career spans more than four decades across environmental policy, infrastructure development, education, and public service. A former UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, he played a key role in driving forward national climate resilience, ecosystem protection, and biosecurity strategies during his tenure from July 2020.
His leadership extended beyond ministerial roles, including chairing the UAE Council for Climate Change and Environment, the National Biosecurity Committee, and the Centre of Excellence in Smart Construction (CESC) at Heriot-Watt University. His work has been recognized globally, earning him a Senior Fellowship from the American University of Sharjah and an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering from Heriot-Watt University.
Prior to his environmental portfolio, Dr. Al Nuaimi served as the Minister of Infrastructure Development (2013–2020), where he oversaw major national projects, from inter-emirate highways to government housing and transport networks. He also led key federal entities including the Sheikh Zayed Housing Program and the Federal Transport Authority.
In 2023, he was unanimously elected Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council, continuing his legacy of public service. Alongside his political and advisory roles, Dr. Al Nuaimi is an active professor, keynote speaker, and published author with over 50 articles in Arabic and English. His work centers on climate change, renewable energy, the built environment, and sustainability leadership.
He is currently a visiting professor at the American University of Sharjah and an honorary professor at Heriot-Watt, teaching a postgraduate course in sustainability for doctoral engineering students. He was recently nominated as a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science, further affirming his lifelong dedication to advancing global knowledge, environmental innovation, and sustainable development.
