Jawad Mian has 12 years of experience in the investment management industry. He specializes in global macro research and trading with a focus on identifying major investment themes and macro trends. He began his career with CIBC in Toronto in Retail Markets before moving to CIBC Mellon where he was involved in portfolio analysis, valuations and financial reporting for mutual funds. He moved to Dubai in 2007 with Rasmala Investments where he implemented strategy and asset allocation for their global and MENA equity portfolios – Rasmala MENA Equity Fund was awarded Best New Fund at Hedge Funds World Middle East Awards 2008. He also played a lead role in launching the Saudi Equity Fund and the top-performing UAE Fixed Income Fund in 2009. Most recently, he spent 3 years as Portfolio Manager at QINVEST in Doha where he managed in excess of $250 million in proprietary risk capital across global and MENA equity markets. He also advised on a $100 million GCC sukuk book. In 2013, Jawad founded Stray Reflections, a global macro research and trading advisory. His clients include some of the world’s largest hedge funds, family offices, and institutional investors. He holds a BA in Finance and Economics from The University of Western Ontario in Canada and is a CFA and CMT charterholder. Jawad has been a sought after speaker at investment conferences since 2008. His work is prized for its staunch independence, clarity of thought, and courage to push clients outside of the manacles of conventional thinking.
